Design | ILM was founded by Jose Alvarado, a Southeast North Carolina native with over 20 years of experience in real estate development and construction. Largely self-taught and driven by a lifelong passion for architecture, Jose brings a unique blend of practical knowledge and creative vision to every project.
Inspired by the timeless work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, his approach emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and style. Design ILM specializes in professional-level design and construction plans for new homes and remodels—offering a cost-conscious alternative for projects that don’t require a licensed architect.
With a deep appreciation for the way people live and interact with their spaces, Jose’s goal is always the same: to design distinctive, functional, and inspiring homes that feel as good as they look. He works closely with each client to understand their lifestyle, budget, and vision—translating ideas into thoughtful designs that are both beautiful and buildable.
